I work in the space of transition: the visible changes, like a new role, a restructure, a career decision, a shift in direction. And the less visible experience of an internal transition, often felt keenly before it is fully understood. I know this space well, because I’ve been in it more than once.

My own change looked decisive from the outside. In reality it was three years of attention, experiments and small choices, and that’s still what I believe most transitions need: space to make sense of what’s happening, and a next step small enough to take.
In 2019, I started a new job that ticked every box I’d set for it. A smaller company, more impact, a more agile way of working. I’d chosen it deliberately, as a test: if I changed my work environment, would I find my motivation and energy again?
Six months in, I was still unsettled. And I realised it wasn’t really about the job. I had changed, and the career I’d set off on at 21 no longer fit who I had become.
That realisation didn’t arrive out of nowhere. It had been those three years in the making.
Before then, I spent 15 years in marketing: five years agency side, seven at Nintendo in the UK marketing team, nearly three in the global brand team at Western Union, and then those final six months in 2019 as Head of Marketing in a fintech startup. Good work, well rewarded, and from around 2017, a growing sense of discomfort and disenchantment.
On reflection, almost every step from there was an experiment rather than a decision. I trained as a Samaritans listening volunteer. I asked friends what my strengths were, and heard the same thing over and over: I was the person they talked to, and I saw their situations differently. One of them mentioned coaching. I went along to an information day, then signed up for a diploma as a learning experience for the challenge and the stretch.
At the end of 2019 I left my corporate career, without a plan, and in January 2020 I started my own coaching practice. That autumn, a mentor suggested I work from Lisbon for a few weeks: “I know you and I know Lisbon, you’ll love it.” Another experiment. I went for six weeks with a backpack and a laptop, came back to London and didn’t feel the same, and in April 2021 I moved.
Looking back with a coach’s eyes, I can see that it didn’t really start with work. A relationship had ended, and the space it left pushed me to rethink how I wanted to experience life. I see the same pattern in the people I work with now. The question they bring is about work or career, and underneath it there’s usually something else in motion.
Today I coach individuals, and work with organisations through one-to-one and group coaching. I bring structure, depth, challenge and careful listening. The work is reflective, but it is not passive. It is thoughtful, but it is not abstract. And it is always action and movement focussed. I’m based near Lisbon and work with clients internationally.
